    It's been awhile
Not sure how much people read this anymore, but there was an amazing (and by this I don't mean good) letter to the editor in the Daily Nebraskan today. And I think everyone would enjoy reading it. I can't believe this kid goes to college:

    U2 concert
Most amazing ever. I've been a fan for more than half of my life (15 years now to be more precise) and the wait was more than worth it. To see the band in my home state with the crowd that was there was pretty much mroe than I can describe. I definitely got choked up at times, the light show was more elaborate than Coldplay will ever know how to pull off and Bono proved why he is the charismatic figure that he is.

They had a circular stage so the band members could kind of walk out into the audience and high five people and such. At one point Bono asked about a little girl he had seen earlier and pulled her up onto the stage and talked about a girl he had met in Sarajevo who was trying to put together a beauty pageant, even as bombs and mortars were being dropped on a daily basis. He mentioned a sign the girl would hold up during the day that said "Do you really want to kill me?"

Then he sang Miss Sarajevo which is a beautiful song. Later a lady came up onto the stage somehow, I didn't notice her entrance, but Bono held her close and sang the entirety of "With or Without You" over her shoulder. Quite a moving moment. I've never been to the Qwest and it wasn't without it's problems. For Kanye West the bass was implorably loud and the beer vendors had pressure problems all night where it was almost impossible for them to pour a beer that was less than half foam. We decided to hit the mixed drink line instead and our total for two drinks was $17.50. Should've expected that I guess. Overall the venue is quite impressive and I'm happy that it is in Omaha.

    Bright Eyes anyone?
Anyone going to the show? Just wanted to mention that I have some extra tickets to the show that are pretty good orchestra seats (within the first 20 rows). Feel free to drop me a line if you're interested, or if you are already going and might want to meet up before the show.

Coming up for Neva dinova and Eagle*Seagull next Thursday as well.

Hope everyone is living the life, I am way too busy for anything. But I did get to interview Tom Wolfe, so that was cool.

Eagle Seagull last night in Omaha
That was fun. I went mostly to see how they were received in their first Omaha appearance that anyone bothered to show up for (1st show was a bust). It seemed that the applause in the audience was louded after each subsequent song. And the money people in the audience were impressed, and that's never a bad thing.

I even saw some of the ol' Live Journal community there.

    Heading to Mississippi
O.K. so friends of mine and I have family and friends down in Mississippi who are in peril. We're heading down to help out as much as we can. We're going to take a trailer with as much shit as we can take. If anyone has any suggestions on donations (not money) I'd be glad to hear them. We're leaving at sunrise tomorrow.

    With all this song talk
I would appreciate a reply with the lyrics to a song whose lyrics you really like. doesn't have to be a favorite song, just good lyrics.

Here's some, I spoke of earlier:

Bankrupt on Selling - Modest Mouse

well all the apostles-they're sitting in swings
saying "i'd sell off my savior for a set of new rings
and some sandles with the style of straps that cling best to the era"
so all of the businessers in their unlimited
hell where they buy and they sell and they sell all their
trash to each other but they're sick of it all
    and they're bankrupt on selling
    and all of the angels
they'd sell off yer soul for a set of new wings and anything gold
    they remember
the people they loved their old friends
and i've seen through'em all seen through'em all and seen through most everything
all the people you knew were the actors
all the people you knew were the actors
well, i'll go to college and i'll learn some big words
    and i'll talk real loud
    goddamn right i'll be heard
you'll remember all the guys that said all those big words he must've
    learned in college
and it took a long time
    i came clean with myself
i come clean out of love with my lover
    i still love her
loved her more when she used to be sober and i was kinder

    Hey Lisa.
Went to a show at Duffy's the other night to see a performance by a singer songwriter from Lincoln by the name of Dan Jenkins. He goes by Joe Buck when he performs solo. He is also the lead singer of Ideal Cleaners if you've ever heard of them.

The last song he played reminded me a lot of Bankrupt on Selling, a lot of the same musical structure, and while the words were different they had the same idea and tone behind them.

I asked after the set if he knew of the similarity between the songs and he said "oh yeah." Explained that one night him and a friend were playing the music but they couldn't remember the words to the song so they made up their own. Good stuff, and I have it on a cassette tape, hopefully you can hear it someday.
